Graffiti Artist Image

  1. I have looked at Elana's links of 2 types of graffiti which are throw ups and bomb art. I didn’t know people even categorized them. To be honest, I do like them, because to me it is quite a new way to express oneself.
When I first came to New Zealand, I had never seen graffiti in China. I was amazed about the color arrangement and those overdrawn images, because I learned a bit paining. These graffiti on the wall really fascinated me. To be more specific, I only interest the image rather than the letters or character they paint on the wall and the meaning or concept behind painting are out of my interest. I used to wonder why Chinese people do not have the skill to match or arrange the color comfortably. I am a little carried away. I would reckon graffiti is an art. Though, it does bother me when it involves damaging people’s property.

  2. I totally agree with what Kathy has said about throw ups and bomb arts, some of them are really artistic and i find it so amazing that people can actualy spray paint so well, some of the graffiti i have seen is just so beautiful, and i personally like it and dont mind seeing more of it at all.

However, i don't like tagging, i think it is pointless to just write something up on a wall that isnt urs, and i think that people shouldnt tag all over places because maybe the person who owns the place that theyre tagging at wouldnt like it, and also it doesnt look pretty like the bomb arts and throw ups. I think that people who tag should think twice before tagging, because it is really sad and offending to tag on someone else's property...

  3. Ying,

Thanks for your comment! I am sure it must be a total culture shock seeing something like graffiti all of a sudden when you grew up in a place that didnt have any! As far as you liking the images rather then the words, i would have to agree with you a bit. I am more attracted to the the bomb art side of graffiti because sometimes i find it hard to read the letters! haha! And how you said you werent really interested in the meaning behind the pictures, graf artists, like most artist dont really make their work for other people to understand, they just do it as a way to express themselves and not get judged on their work or even have it understood! There is a website you might like to check which is kind of funny, its about "grading" pieces of graffiti art work just like you would be graded on an assignment at school! The website link is http://weburbanist.com/2007/12/22/the-graffiti-report-card-controversy-and-critique-of-an-unusual-urban-art-project/

Hope you enjoy it! And thanks again for your input!

  4. Taz,

Thanks for your comment! I agree with you when you say that tagging is pointless. I have to be thankful for it in some aspect thought because it is what started the beautiful pieces which are the throw ups and bomb art but i think that graffiti has evolved so much that it doesnt need tagging and people should realize that it isnt "cool" to scribble their names on other peoples property!
